Michael Figueroa has used Azielo as his independent business persona since 2016 to help Boston-area mission-driven organizations more efficiently apply technology and cybersecurity solutions to achieve their objectives.
A proud Latinx technology executive of indigenous descent, he specializes in making technology and cybersecurity more accessible in support of state, local, and federal government agencies, social justice and STEM advancement nonprofits, and startups. After the pandemic forced everyone into remote work, Michael began offering his help to friends and family struggling with their related technology challenges. High demand led Michael to expand Azielo into a more formal business venture.
With over 20 years of experience in technology and cybersecurity, Michael is a hands-on expert who has done everything from building computers to running business operations. He has helped run startups, designed new technologies, and managed complex system integrations as an information technology consultant. When not engaged in Azielo work, Michael advises Massachusetts government officials on municipal cybersecurity and writes about technology inequity on Medium. His full background is available on LinkedIn.
Michael holds degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the George Washington University (GWU) , and is a longtime Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He has taught graduate students as an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia (UVA) and as a lecturer at GWU, is a licensed youth soccer coach who has worked with kids at all ages, and has received several Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Double-Goal Coach training certificates.
The word "Azielo" is a crude mashup of the Spanish words "azul" and "cielo," respectively translated in English to "blue" and "sky." It is meant to evoke the sense of calm that falls over all of us when we look up, regardless of what challenges we might be facing.
